My Favorite 1990's Music Videos

(1993, Jake Scott)

There is a traffic jam going on and we all want to know what some commuters are thinking.  Later, Michael Stipe provoked the commuters to leave their vehicles behind.  Try doing this in L.A. during rush hour.

(1994, Stephen Hanft)

Great montage video that looks like it's on a low budget.

Nine Inch Nails - "Closer"
(1994, Mark Romanek)

This video is part Steampunk, part shock, but it worked as a piece of art.

Rolling Stones - "Love is Strong"
(1994, Samuel Bayer)

Attack of the 50 Ft. Old Timers and Models... or should I say "Mickzilla".

(1994, Spike Jonze)

This looks like a badass opening to a 70's cop drama with MCA as Cochise, Mike D as the Chief, and Adrock as Bobby the Rookie.  Imagine a music video version of Starsky and Hutch.

Soundgarden - "Black Hole Sun"
(1994, Howard Greenhalgh)

It's a beautiful day in suburbia until a group of End Timers show up dressed, and then we have distorted faces and a possessed tornado sucking up the residents.

(1995, Spike Jonze)

This is the other Burning Man.

(1996, Stephen Hanft)

Great groovy, funky montage with road crews, pseudo-Candyman, line dancing, and an homage to William Shatner.

(1996, Dom and Nick)

Typical raver hangover.

(1996, Spike Jonze)

Imagine McGruff the Crime Dog without a trench coat, but with a zipper hoodie, a collegiate shirt, a broken leg cast, and a ghetto blaster.

(1997, Michel Gondry)

This is one of Gondry's synchronized videos with sets of mummies, swimmers, skeletons, b-boys, and spacemen.

(1997, Jonathan Glazer)

Keep in mind that the floor isn't moving... the walls are.  Great optical illusion.

(1997, Walter Stern)

Get out of my way!  I'm making a music video.

(1998, Mike Mills)

A table tennis tournament is taking place and it synchs with Jean-Benoit Dunkel and Nicolas Godin playing Pong on the Atari 2600.  Later, Dunkel and Godin appear as first responders trying to resuscitate one of the players (named Kelly).

(1998, Jonathan Glazer)

We have this schizophrenic bum who looks like Bill Paxton walking along a double-line median of a tunnel somewhere in London, getting hit by cars, but remains unscathed.  The ending is kind of crazy.

(1998, Nathaniel Hornblower)

MCA directed this video under a pseudonym and it's a parody of "Danger Diabolik" with Adrock filling in for John Phillip Law.

(1998, Doug Aitken)

This video has a great montage that segues to one another.  It has grocery store parking lot punks, guys sporting afros, a dive bar scene with patrons blowing bubbles, and surfers.

(1999, Beck)

Quirky video with aliens, possessed kitchen appliances, a tribute to "Mr. Freedom", and Jack Black.

Ol' Dirty Bastard ft. Kelis - "Got Ya Money"
(1999, Hype Williams/D'Urville Martin/Nzingha Stewart/Scott Kalvert)

ODB meets Dolemite!

I am so old that today's alternative rock radio is either dead or just plain shit.

From the mid-1990's to the early 2000's, alternative radio was the soundtrack to my younger years.  Here in San Diego, 91X is still the #1 alt.station for over 30 year, but now it is not relevant.  They still overplay Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Bush, blink-182, No Doubt, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Muse, Stone Temple Pilots, Green Day, Weezer, Kings of Leon, Linkin Park, The Black Keys, Pearl Jam, etc. like it's used gum.  But they also play recent poppy crap like Kaleo, Twenty-One Pilots, Lorde, recent Coldplay, etc.  Either major radio markets play crap (like here in San Diego) or changed formats (like in Philadelphia, Dallas, and Chicago). History of my favorite defunct stations (and early years of FM 94/9) 92.5 The Flash (XHRM-FM) 1993 - 1998 In 1993, when 91X turned 10, this station made its debut.  It was run mostly by long-forgotten DJs, like Fitz, Bruce Wayne, Big Wave Dave, Randy DeWitt, Todd Kelly, Tom Perry, Bree O'Shea, John Kryvorka, M

Horny, shy, picky, naïve, and nervous: a lethal combination

It's an epic conflict between my libido and my mind.  There is a part of me that wants to have sex with anything available, but there's also a part of me that wants to pick a certain one.  I am trying to get laid, but I do have my standards.  Here is a list of things that counter my preferences: -I found a classified ad on Craigslist about a single mom who is looking for a sex buddy.  The downside is that she is five-months pregnant.  I think that she is a slut.  Pregnancy is a major turn-off for single guys. -I am not attracted to BBWs, transsexuals (I need a taco to go along with that attractive body; sorry), junkies, and those who I consider "grenades".  I guess that is one of the reasons why I can't be a gigolo.  I also don't want to be involved with someone who is cheating on her husband or boyfriend.  No strings attached, please. -I am for regulated forms of prostitution like Dennis Hof's brothel in Nevada and the red-light district in Ams

Some forgotten 90's alt-rock songs.

Pluto - "When She Was Happy" (1996) This band from Vancouver was nominated for a Juno Award for "Best New Band". BTK - "Peppyrock" (1996) Another Juno nominee, this Toronto act (a.k.a. Birth Through Knowledge) has a fun hip-hop/rock beat and a music video that parodies Sesame Street and the Electric Company. Pfil bryte - "Merry Go Round" (1996) What I found out about him is that he's based in San Francisco, is the grandson of Woody Woodpecker creator Walter Lantz, and has a music production company (http://www.pfilbryte.com/home/).  This song has a relaxed hip-hop feel and (like a few of his other songs) mentions Disneyland.  He also did a great cover of Blood Sweat & Tears' "Spinning Wheel". Reacharound - "Big Chair" (1996) There isn't anything I could find about this band, but they do hail from Southern California and were label mates with No Doubt and Bush. Update 6/2/20: I found some more infor
